Strapbutton location
« on: March 22, 2012, 11:09:47 AM »
I'm having problems deciding where to put the strap buttons on my Standard Point. I'm kind of leaning towards put them where Mr. Casady had it on his nr.1, one right at the end of the neck (kindof in the middle of the body) and the other a little above the point.
Any objections? hehe..

IF it's long scale, it will balance just great . . . if you put it right behind the fifteenth fret ! !

Personally, it makes me uneasy to see that strap button right in the middle of the neckthru at the body joint, so for me, the upper horn will just have to do.  You will learn how to 'wear' it and have it sit just so where it will play fine.

Mica's remarked that that shape was originally for medium / short scales where it balances just fine.  Geometry and gravity scheme against it in long or 35/36 scales, which even Ron can not reverse (though I'm convinced he's actually perfecting warp drive and folding space, but what do I know . . . .)

I have to agree with Joey on this one!!
However----I asked a similar question a few years go, and it was thanks to fellow member MALTHUMB, that it all worked out fine. It was a question of reach and balance, and his ideas are just great, even for a little guy like me (5ft 6)

I've been pondering this for the custom I'll never be able to afford.  I wear my guitars mid-height, but like to hang a bass rock 'n' roll style, with the body down around my magic parts.  To counter the reach problem, a balance of around 1:00-1:30 seems about right.  I thinking, on a Spoiler body, would it work to put the back straplock a bit to the bass side of the middle, and the front one just onto the inside curve of the upper bass bout?
