My bass guitar is it false? or stolen?
« on: February 25, 2011, 09:04:29 PM »
hey guys, I present, I'm Juan from Chile and long ago I bought a bass guitar used by internet, I knew it was bad shape, was not the original circuit, the serial number was almost unrecognizable, the conductive paint was oxidized, is an Alembic Epic 5 fretless, all I can read are the numbers that go under the pads and the phrase proudly made in the usa  ... was tinted in red and badly lacquered, its former owner probably had it over saved time, no serial number on the head, had some wood veneer, the 5-piece neck is maple with ebony fingerboard and small veneer between both ...

you will forgive my poor English but I speak Spanish, I hope you understand

Well, here I upload some pictures

Welcome Juan, I'm from Brazil (don't speak english either) and you'll see guys here are very suportive and gentle (don't mind your skills in English, they will ask if having trouble getting your point)...

It seems the real thing to me, but would be good to see the Tail, Headstock and the set neck joint at the back.
Not just a bass, this is an Alembic!

hello juan, welcome to the club!
on older epics the serial number was only stamped in the control cavity. this pic shows the general location of those kind of stamps.
someone might have filled it in with putty or something. it's unlikely it would be sanded off entirely. if you post a picture of the cavity, someone might be able help.

Saludos!
Greetings from Venezuela, Juan! Me (I'm also named Juan) am also the owner of an Epic 5. I'd suggest you to post pics from the headstock (front and back) as well as the control cavity, and between all of us I think we can help you with your doubt. However, I second what Mario Farufyno said, as far as we can see, it looks like a real -although very beaten-Alembic Epic. Greetings!
