Scorpion Custom 5 Sting Bass - Hello from England
« Reply #15 on: April 17, 2013, 12:47:56 AM »
Hi jazzyvee

Sorry but nowhere close to the midlands, at the moment I am in South Korea................waiting to see what happens with a threatened test fire of a missile, but still enjoying the music scene.

The music we play is mainly rock music, appologies to the virtuoso's and proffessional players in the club, but music is music and sounds even better with the Alembic, quite a few glances when the aaLembic is being played, most people think it is a bling bass made in Asia more of a fashion accessory...............until they hear the sound, then they know its something special.

All the best

Andy

Andy,

That is a very cool bass you have, enjoy it in good health.

One question, how does it balance?  I had a Series II years ago that had a problem with neck dive.  Your's looks like it might balance in a similar way.  I hope you've found a way to make it work for you as I bet it sounds amazing.

Best Wishes,
Bones

Hi Bones

Yes it does neck dive big time, dont have a solution yet just have to keep hold of it !

I did do one thing though and it was kind of cosmetic and part balance, I had already spoken to Mica about the neck dive and she told me that the only real solution was to change the fulcrum point of the strap buttons, I had seen on a few other messages the extended top horn strap button, but have not followed that up yet. The rear cavity plate on my bass from factory was made from sheet plastic, I changed this to a piece of brass plate 3mm thick. There is substantially more weight in this plate and it does help the neck dive a little bit but is not the answer. So for now just have to keep good hold of the precious

Sound though is amazing, I am on work assignment overseas and most people that see the Alembic for the first time just pass it off as another type of far east bling bass, that is until they hear it, instead of the dull lifeless thud they are treated to clear ringing sustain...........thats when all the questions start about what type of bass it is, where was it made, who else plays them, feel so priveleged and proud to own it.

Best regards

Andy
