Five String Persuader 90P6058
« on: August 13, 2004, 10:20:57 AM »
Here's my first attempt at putting up some pics.  The bass is a flamed walnut top over mahogany five string Persuader.  As far as I can tell, it's a pretty typical model for the day...

Some day I may even get the build info for this thing with all the details.

Beautiful top wood. Are the controls Volume, Pan & Tone?

Persuader standard is Volume, Volume, Filter.  It's not as quick to switch between tones, but it's more versatile.  I didn't like them when I first started playing it, but the controls are growing on me.

Also, the top wood is very plain when viewed in playing situations.  I was able to take photos from an angle that showed up the figuring around the edges, but take a look at the shot of the whole bass.  From more than ten feet away, it looks pretty ordinary.

Fortunately you don?t need to be more than ten feet away when you?re playing it. LOL

I?m picking up my Persuader the first week of September.  (My 1st Alembic bass)It has the PJ style pickups, so I?m guessing that it's sound will be a little less full than yours.  I haven?t seen mine in anything but pictures, so I?ll just have to wait and see (hear).

I think the wood on your bass is beautiful.

Enjoy

You could of course enjoy the very distinctive wood grain and the subtle cross-waves as you play it, knowing that listeners won't be distracted from the undoubtedly fine tone by its built-in beauty ...

Sure, and the listeners could enjoy staring at the top of my head!

Yes, I know the bass is nice.  We did an afternoon wedding about a month ago and the sunlight hit it perfectly on the stand so that it looked like it had massive tiger stripes from 50 yards away.  It's very subtle most of the time though, and I would like my next one to have a bit more obvious figuring or otherwise interesting grain.

I bought a used Persuader to get a feel for the 32 scale on a five string and the performance of this bass is worth twice what I paid for it.  I certainly have no regrets that the top isn't custom-of-the-month material.

Bob ... I might be interested in your bass. I have to talk with the little lady because I'm currently paying off a Mackie sound system I bought but I'm still very interested. I live in Hudson NH so if I can find a way I will. I could even meet you in person and do business. I'll let you know ... I assume it's still available. My e-mail is korg@comcast.net if you'd like to discuss this off line.

Thanks
Ray
