Another New Excel

The Excel (IMHO) has to be the best bass around; and yes, it's all about personal preferences. I walked into the local dealer to check out some new Ashdown combos, and since I didn't have my Excel-4 with me, asked the salesman for something close.  He offered me a 5-string which I fell in love with it on the spot, made a great deal, and never finished checking out the amps (LOL). The double purpleheart acent is so pretty and sets off the bird's eye maple just right.  The pictures don't do it justice.  Long live disposable income (LLLOOOLLL).

Hey Ellery,

I played that same Bass a couple of weeks ago at Steve's.  I had to fight off a TERRIBLE urge to buy it.  I too fell in love with it.  I just couldn't justify buying another Alembic (I already own 11 Excels) at this time.  I agree that the Excel is by far the world's greatest and most underrated Bass - and I can say that from the point of view that I own many other Basses (including a Series II).  Anyone who does not own an Excel is really missing out on something VERY special.  I wish you a lifetime of pleasure with it - I know it's in good hands.

Cheers,

Rami

I'm currently considering ordering an Excel 5 after recently buying a 4, are they just as awesome? Is the stock pickup location great for 5-string as well? How good is the low B?

Cheers,
EG
