OK, my turn... ;o)
« on: December 09, 2006, 02:06:27 PM »
Here is my newly purchased Alembic Excel.  What captured my attention?  Just look it... It is elegance and simplicity... the only frosting here is the pleasure of playing!  This one is all about sound.  I have just installed new black nylon (yes, black nylon!!!) tape wound string and through my Ampeg amp and cab this baby sounds incredible for what moves me the most... Jazz and Latino Jazz primarily.

I need to quote Chuck, Awesome Bass. The whole package says conservitive (not political) pro plays this this bass and its all about the music.Probably the cleanest bass I've ever seen. and  Davehouck, Elegant was one word that came to mind. since they expressed my sentiments exactly when I first saw it. Thanks guys for the compliments... I am taking it personal! ;o)

Very nice indeed. Looks like one I bid on, on Ebay. Fretless Alembic will probably be my next venture. Of course that will be a while.

Nylon huh? Do you play a lot of JAzz?

Hello Hector,
A beautiful Excel! I'm in Dupage County, playing a fretless Epic regularly. I'd like to hear you. Be sure to post in the Gigs thread when you're playing out.

WOW!  This might just be the most elegant looking bass I've ever seen.  The understated beauty is breathtaking.  If she sounds half as good as she looks, you've got yourself one special instrument, Hector.  Enjoy!

Excels Rock. Beautiful lines, great tone, simplicity exemplified. Like a MM Stingray on serious steroids. You have one elegant bass. Treat her well, she'll take care of you!!

I have to agree with Bill, this is classic elegance, which to me implies understated. Clean, simple, the canary is stunning and goes great with the pau ferro (do I have that right? must have been mentioned in another thread...).

Come on, give us another photo with the black strings.

(Oh, and if someone happens to drop by and say they don't like coneheads, just tell 'em to bug off.)

How do you like the feel of the neck? I'm custom ordering a fretless 5 but unfortunately I've only played my 4 string Essence.

Anybody still checking this thread? I love the look of this bass, and am wondering:
1. What is the top wood?
2. Is that a satin finish on the top?
3. Hector (if you're still following this thread,) can you describe what you love about this instrument's tone?
Thanks,
Tom

Thanks, Dave. Do you know anything about the sonic properties of Canary wood? It shore is purty.
