I actually ordered it as you see it. Sliding across the inlays wasn't really a problem. There were a couple of notes though where when the string was fretted, so to speak, that the string made contact with the inlays BEHIND the note and created a very slight buzz...wasn't a problem playing in a blues/rock type context, although I can see where if it were applied to a quieter, perhaps jazz type context, someone may not have been happy with it.
As I later discovered, I'm not a great fretless player and the active electronics were very revealing as far as intonation goes. I sold this bass last year...tax man & divorce lawyers sort of gave me the double whammy.
Fear not though, I still have my '85 fretted Spoiler, which I tend to use for acoustic gigs & my '01 MK Standard...coco bolo...that I use for electric shows. There are a couple of pics of my MK in the signature gallery.
