I figured it's about time i posted some pics of my basses. Let's start with my MK Standard Point in Coco, lovingly named The Big General

Now for my Brown Bass.. which i assume is a signature series? Anyway, this one is signed by Vic Wooten and aptly named The Work Bass

Okay... these next few are family shots :] Most of them aren't alembics... but you guys can appreciate 'lesser' basses anyway, right? Top row Left to right : Modulus Q4 in quilt maple, Modulus Q6 semi-hollow with sunburst, Warrior 7-string (yes, 7), Darrin Huff Rainbow Bass (nope, not a Carl Thompson..based on Les Claypool's bass). Laying down left to right: the work bass, Warwick FNA Jazzman LTD. 2003 (#23 of 200), '77 Jazz Bass with Status neck, Custom fretless 6 string Warwick streamer stage 1 with Zebrawood and side LED's, '75 P-Bass with fretless status neck, 1985 warwick thumb, sn# 0004.. as in the fourth one. ever.., next is the Zon Hyperbass, and finally my Fretless Excel 5, which i will post more pics of in the excel thread.

and last, but in no way least.. my true love, nessy :]

holy christ!!!! that's an amazing collection.

how do you like the hyperbass? it drops down into some weird tuning or something?

Yeah, the hyperbass is designed for alternate tunings, and all the tuners have detunes on them. I just tune it EADG, and i can drop it to CGCG. Next to my alembics (ofcourse), it's the best bass i own. It practically plays itself, never needs adjustment, and can get a GREAT sound with little work. I love it. Closest thing ive heard to that true Jaco tone.

Nice collection! The grain pattern on your Mark King (Deluxe instead of Standard?) looks almost exactly like the grain pattern on my Mark King / Series II.

It is an idea tot do with Broomstick my crappy souding Squire Jazzbass: to put on a STatus JB neck fretless.

Thanks guys...
The status necks seem to add more of a presence in the mids to me, making the jazz really nice for slap stuff, and giving the fretless a nice 'growl'. The necks do kind of take away a little bit of the 'organic' thump sound, though. The jazz bass has EMG's, a Bad Ass II, and the status neck, and the P-Bass is all original except for the neck.

allright, well, I'll ask another question, long as you're answerin'.

the warrior. I have occasionally considered a 7-string (because I'm obviously insane). have you played the much less expensive conklins, the ones bill dickens uses? if so, I was wondering what the difference was between that and the much more expensive warrior.

do you really play that crazy 7-string monster anyway???

I haven't played the conklin, but from what i've heard it's the best for the price. I play around with the 7, but i would never gig with it, for fear of making myself look like an idiot :]
Mainly, i play with chords on it, and use it for jams with bass player friends... I'm considering selling it, simply because I know a few people who could put it to much better use than I do. It is fun, though, i must admit. The neck isn't as huge as one would think, it's actually pretty comfortable, and the thing sounds beautiful up and down the neck.
The one thing i can say about 7-strings, is that if you like playing in the higher octave, or use Piccolo basses (which i do), and dont like having to switch basses frequently, I would suggest getting a 7. It actually has a higher range than a piccolo, and you still have enough low end to shake the house.

It's definitely worth the investment if you think it's something you'd really put to use.

as a matter of fact, I do use a piccolo, one of the reasons I've considered a 7, even a (gulp!) 8. but, yeah, I'd feel kind of silly, though I may have to take the plunge someday just to see what it feels like....
