Here is my Alembic Stanley Clarke Signature Deluxe Bass. Date of completion: 23/08/2001 Purchased: June 2002 Model Name: Signature Deluxe Top Laminate: Coco Bolo Accent Wood: Maple Body Wood: Mahogany Neck: Maple/Purpleheart Fingerboard: Ebony Tuners: Alembic Gold Inlays: Alabone Ovals Strings: CX-3 Electronics: Signature, 2 -AXY4 Pickups Finish: High Gloss Polyester. continuous backplate in coco bolo. Usually found connected to: Me.... The strange thing about this bass is that the coco bolo colour seems to be constantly changing colour from a deep reddish brown to a plain dark brown depending on the angle you view it at. Outside in daylight it definately has a reddish bias as with these pics taken with a daylight flash. The sound I can get from it ranges from the warm thudy mellow double bass sounds for jazz and Traditional Jamaican Ska, Deep pounding bass for Reggae through to the crispness (almost) of Stanley Clarke's tone, that crisp tight tone Marcus Miller gets from his fender through to the honkiest Jaco pastorias and Gary willis tones. All with perfect hi-fi sound and more importantly no distortion :-) Not that I can catch any of those guys but it gives you and idea of the versatility of tone. I absolutely love playing it. Beautiful! One of the many great things about Alembic is that each one is a treat. Kind of like snowflakes.

I've heard that about coco bolo changing depending on the angle before. That's an interesting trait.

What amplification are you using to help get that range of tones?

Hey Jazzy! Thanks for sharing your pictures. Great looking coco bolo! There's something about the small standard shape in coco bolo or rosewood that is so picturesque. Almost like finding a shell (like abalone) that's just a palate of wonderful color. I like the abalone ovals too. A great highlight with the coco bolo and sort of a jewly, festive touch! Wow. I'm running out of adjectives...

Really cool bass. I'd like to hear about your rig, too.

All mesa boogie, a 300w Walkabout a 2x10 powerhouse and a 1x15 powerhouse cab. As the Who would say it's Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy.

It was the only setup I found that made my bass sound like it was free.

I really like your car. I liked the roadster better, but not its price. However, your car for the price is most excellent! I wonder if they will start selling them here in the states? Nice bass, nice car. Good for you on both counts.

Just had min Initials put at the 12th fret in Abalone by John Diggins from Jaydee Custom Guitars.
Now you know thats not gonna be sold. :-)
It's nice to have it personalised.

Here are the members of my Alembic family First one is the head of the family and is a Stanley Clarke Deluxe with Cocobolo top and continuous back which I got brand new in 2002 from the Bass Centre in England. She got married to Europa 5 with Bocate top and gold plated electronics cover plate that I got from a forum member in London, England in 2005. that same year the Orion Guitar came into the family. I found her on Ebay in 2005 being sold at by German music chain store. They had it for 10 years and never sold it. What a bargain that was... a brand new 10yr old Alembic. In 2007 I upgraded the electronics to a filter and 3 position q-switch, transplanting the standard bass and treble controls to my alembicised strat. The most recent addition to the family is the Elan 4- plus. It has the Europa electronics package. Again I got that from a forum member in Europe in 2007 Here they are relaxing on the family bed.
