Hi Friends,
I don't know if any of you noticed just now but James Taylor just played at the Democratic National Convention and there was a beautiful Alembic bass being played right next to him.
Not sure who it was but it was nice!!!

We've were seeing a flash of JT and Jimmy on the local news yesterday. In a wrap up of both conventions, there was a quick sequence about Clint Eastwood (his routine had the highest recognition factor of any of the RNC speakers), followed by James Taylor making a joke - he walks up to a chair and says Don't worry folks, I'm just going to sit on this.

On a more serious note, wow, it looks like Jimmy's bass has really narrow string spacing in this picture.

David, it's a steep camera angle but yes, 1-7/8 nut means it's close to 5 strings on a 4-string neck. Too tight for most guys but it's what I'm used to after all these years.

As many things in life we like, a tight fit can be very good. Personally, I suspect it may force one to be more accurate when articulating notes, since there is less room between the strings. More precise fingering of the notes would be required. As far as feel, I have 34 inch scales bassss that I prefer with the comfort taper with a nut width of 1.625 inch, except for my Pedullas and Jazz basses at 1.5 inch width at the nut, yet for my Stanley, which is a 30 inch scale I prefer the standard Precision or 1.75 inch nut width. More room for my stubby chubby digits. Go figure. Go figure! I wil not comment on a 32 inch scale, at least not yet.
