Hi, folks - Bonjour, les amis!
Just  a little word, passing by, to say that my bass is reaaaaaaaally fantastic! I've been playing many gigs with it, and the sound is still so wonderful, fat and clear, and .... Everything, I guess... :-))))
I play with a cover band ( un orchestre de bal), with very long gigs ( 4 hours non-stop playing), and everything is perfect! I just have to check the tuning, since I play with a pick, and I attack the strings a little roughly sometimes, but, man, such a sound!!! Such a reliability!! It is so enjoyable to know that your instrument won't let you down...
My bassist dreams come true!   :-))))))
          Xtof

Hi, folks, again!
You guys are going to say that I'm repeating myself, but the point is that I'm more and more happy, and proud, and totally satisfied, ...and whatever you want, about my MK signature...
I just bought a new amplifier system, Aguilar (Alain Dubal's rig), and man ,what a sound!!! They're completely matching, since the combination bass/amp sounds like I've never heard anything like that... Even in big concerts, the quality of the bass sound is not that.... perfect!
Also, something really amazing, about strings, I have changed them and put Elixir in april, and I have been playing many many many long gigs (4-5 hours, sometimes longer), and they still sound so clear!!! It's unbelievable!
There is something else I'd like to know : about the serial number of my bass. I noticed that most of the Mark King Signatures had the capitals -MK- in the serial number, but mine has -MJ-. Can anybody tell me about it?
Thanks for reading, and happy new year, fellows!!!
  Xtof

Christophe, according to the main site, MK signifies a signature deluxe and MJ a signature standard. Looking at your bass, it has many of the deluxe features, - Purpleheart neck laminates, rear body laminate and brass backplate so it should probably have been labelled as 'MK'. I can only assume that it was originally ordered as a signature standard and the owner specified some 'deluxe' extras.

That is a great bass, Christophe.  I really like the Hipshot tuners on it.  I am curious if they fit into the existing Gotoh holes, or did the holes need to be enlarged to fit the tuners?  I know Hipshots require a larger mounting hole than Schallers do, and I know Gotoh's require a larger hole, also.  But are the two compatible to each other?

Walnut is just like awesome comfort food.  BTW repeat yourself, there are lots of other members who talk way too much about matters unrelated to Alembic.  Yoiu can have your 15 minutes with pride.  I love my Mark King deluxe as well, but you will get a Series bug that will totally consume you.  Believe me I know from personal experience

Christophe,
Your bass is exquisite and it's OK to be totally in love and wax poetic. Your body shape is phat and I've been drooling over your bass ever since you first posted! Aside from the number of strings affecting the visual perception of width, I think the scale length has a profound effect, also. My MK Sig Dlx 5 string looks fairly wide if you only focus on the body, but when you take in the whole 35 scale she seems practically svelte.

The only downside to the drool factor? I've had to extend my usual practice regimen to allow for the extra time I spend just gawking at my bass in the case or on her stand. Seriously.

I'm an Aguilar fan, too, and have two single-12 GS112's that I used to stack, but now run them side by side on the floor so that they both couple equally with the ground and I can set both tweeters the same way (which for me means turned WAY down).

Anyway, congrats on a beautiful instrument!
-Sam
