MK sig Deluxe 5 string
« on: February 17, 2009, 10:06:52 AM »
Hi, everybody!    Here are a few pictures of my new bass. Man, a dream came true!!!     The sound is so incredible, and seems so reliable, since I've been playing two very long gigs this week-end ( 2x6 hours) and my bass was still sounding so clear and sharp and powerful!!! I think it's the new word I should say for an instrument : SO-LID !!!! I've been playing the bass for almost 25 years, and it's the first time I have this sensation : completely trusting the instrument, and that's really wonderful! Just wanted to say that and say a big "merci" to all the people at Alembic, and also to the musician I bought this bass, Nicolas ( aka Nikobask), such a nice person!!!

I've never really been a huge MK fan...but this specimen is changing my attitude.  The shape seems to fit better with at least 5 strings.  And, walnut is always a nice touch.  Congrats.

Will. This looks to be a 'balance point' body so somewhere between the 'standard point' body that the Mk is usually seen in, and the newer 'Balance K' that is starting to take over - especially where Bass central is concerned. I really like my Balance K and feel the standard point would be too big for me. My next bass will probably be a walnut balance point like Cristophe's beautiful example on this thread.

Graeme - not to put too fine a point upon it, but this would be a Balance Omega. And a mouthwateringly gorgeous one at that!

I must say it's very, very close to what I've been dreaming about for a 6 string.

Thanks for the clarification, guys.  However it's genotyped, this particular combo of shape and string number is awesome, and now one of my favorites...cheers!

Note that the Balance Point family (including the Omega variation) are actually larger than the Standard Point family of bodies.

Thanks for that clarification Mica.  I thought I was seeing things.  My Series I and Series II are big boys but as I was looking at the picture at the top of the page, I was wondering if the picture had been stretched a bit width-wise or if I needed new contacts.  Krystoof's bass is a bit wider than my 5-string point body.

And I don't need to change my contacts.

Peace,

That's interesting Mica. looks like I've been taken in by the optical illusion as I've always thought the Balance point had the same width body as the standard; just narrower across the horns.

Thank you for all your messages and your interrogations, answers ( thx, Mica ;-)), but I just can say the bass picture has not been stretched or whatever. She is a big boy, Malthumb, actually!!!
And with a big boy sound, man!!!! That's huge! Everyday, I'm so surprised by the quality of this sound...
    Have a good day!
