A pic of me & Stanley after the Clarke/Duke show at Wolf Trap on 08/29. He didn't play the new 5 string that night...played the Cocobolo topped 4, which is strung up as a tenor, I think.

Looks like he is saying Hello Pork Pie Hat   :-)
I've had two opportunities to meet Stanley at his gigs, once in the USA at the Coach House and the other at Ronnie Scotts, London  and both times he was in a rush to leave the venue.

Hopefully I can get to meet him one day.

Wow...look at the size of his hands...

Can't believe he navigates the small necks on his basses as easily as he does.

Look at the smile that guy with the cool t-shirt has.  That's one of them ear to ear grins.

Very cool! And that's an optical illusion... his hands are actually much LARGER than that!

I managed to give stan a high five at the end of one of his upright bass numbers at the Jazz cafe in london a few years ago and I was amazed at the size of his hands (also amazed that his alembic had straplocks instead of his more usual method of using woodscrews to secure his strap. Jazzy was there too as was Mike Pisanek and I vividly recall chasing him out of the club to get an autograph on my 'Schooldays' sleeve. jazzy was wanting his control cavity cover signed and Stan said he'd be right back - we're still waiting :-(

Having met him, I'd say he's definitely in the 6'6 to 6'7 range. And he has gigantic hands. Like I have some chicken chokers, and his hands dwarfed mine.
