Charles, if you are looking for a great sounding combo I highly recommend the Fender Rumble 350. I tried all the Mark Bass, Acoustic, GK, Ampeg, Peavey, & TC Electronics combos & the Rumble has more bottom end than & sounds better than all of them. I tilt mine back like a floor monitor & it still has plenty of bottom end & at 350 watts I've never had it past 2 1/2 even at outdoor gigs. You can get a Rumble for under $500 which is about half the cost of a comparable Mark Bass combo.

Thanks guys. And for the sake of clarity, when I say 13+ and still going! I'm talking about the bass. I got it in June 2000 and it's still my ace. As for me....30+ and still going!

Charles,

You should probably take Rusty's advice and try the Fender Rumble 350. I tried it and a couple Peavey rigs and did not like either at all. Rusty likes the Fender and did not like the MarkBass. Only proves that tastes vary. In my opinion they were wildly different animals. Only you will know which animal is better for you to train.

I have to add a +1 to Chalie's Glad you're still gigging!

I love the 2+3 headstock layout on my Stanley, but on yours the 3+2 fits better. I don't know why that caught my eye!

Also, how was it with your rig in front of you?!! Does that have backwards-firing speakers or something?

I agree with James, Charles, definitely check out all the amps & see what suits your style & tone you are looking for. I did like the Mark Bass with the extension cabinet like James has, but I wanted something more portable without having to haul an extra cabinet. With my SCSD the Fender tone controls seemed to be more responsive than the Mark Bass controls. With James' Series II I'm sure the Mark Bass sounds amazing!

We used in ear monitors. The cabs in front were for the nearby crowds. We were linked into the stadium PA, but for the people right in front of us, the cabs and Bose system were primary sound..

I recently heard a demo for the first time of one of those Bose systems and I was seriously impressed. If I was running my own band and gigging regularly I would consider investing in a system for the smaller club/pub venues.
