I have pretty long fingers. When I made the jump to 36 scale, I really didn't notice a big difference. Only when playing for an extended period did I notice my hands were a little sore. But that went away with time. If you have small hands, 36 scale probably isn't for you. If you get the chance to try one, I highly recommend it before you end up with something you can't play comfortably. But I love the added tension in the strings and of course, the amazing sustain and harmonics.
It was defintely worth it for me.
