Here's my recent purchase from fellow Alembic club member Hugh in Canada

Long scale Series 1 with a mahogany core and walnut facings. I'm still looking for a power supply for it at the moment.

It's well played but nevertheless still very sound. Hugh was good enough to have the frets redone before he sent it over and it's the best fret job I've ever played.

Part of me wants to get the chipped finish sorted but it does match my beat up 78 Musicman Stingray in a funky 70's way. (Message edited by crazykiwi on March 26, 2006) (Message edited by crazykiwi on March 26, 2006)

That is a great bass. I just love the graphite neck and the older finish.

Yeah, she's a lovely old girl. She's been around the world a bit (literally with Hugh) worked hard for a lot of her life and now she deserves a nice semi-retirement and a bit of pampering.

The pickups have been replaced after the originals wore out and the finish appears to be stained yellow. Its worn off the neck if you look closely at the pics. The bass has also been subject to some temperature extremes at some point in its life as there's crazing over the back.

But thats OK with me because it means I'm not paranoid about taking it to gigs. Would it be worth a refin? I'm a bit loathed to because I kind of like its workhorse patina

Thanks mark, she's truly inspirational. I've got an gorgeous old English made 100w valve, dual channel Burman bass head made in 1976 and when I put the two of these together the result is just awesomely evocative of 70's rock (Led Zep, The Who, ELP etc.) I can split the pickups into each channel of the amp too and eq them separately!

She can also hold her own in more modern styles too thanks to the dual sweep filters. I can really appreciate why Alembic Series basses are so popular for recording.

Steve I agree 100% on keeping the patina of age on your fine bass, it earned every mark! I think most of us club have the patina of age as well, I sure do. Michael
