Hi members! This is my Serie 1 1977. Now I have a number one!! Enjoy. Please let me know about the wood and any commentaries. (Forgive my english) Thanks! Ricardo

Ricardo, that is beautiful. The bridge looks like leaded crystal, it's so bright.

Welcome, Ricardo, that's a beautiful Series I! When you get a chance, I'm sure some of us would like to see your other basses.

Don't worry about your English - we have a standing rule that the best you can do is just fine. Some of us even feel a little guilty that you are mostly stuck using English here, and wish we could follow along better when members sometimes slip into other languages.

Now then, when are you going to polish the tailpiece to match?

Bob; generally the tail pieces are plated and should not be polished with Flitz or other brass polishes, and I'm assuming that the tailpiece on this bass is plated brass.

Dave, I don't think you really meant plated. If it's just brass, then it was probably laquered, right?

I think this is the standard approach, and I also think that you can safely use Flitz on it - but as always (or usual) I could be wrong, so it would be good to review this.

The lacquer will only hold up so long. Once it starts to wear off, to get a consistent polish you have remove it all. Then it will get shiny as heck, but will lose that brightness very quickly, and will turn green a lot faster, too, especially if it is touched often.

On Ricardo's bass, it looks like the lacquer is wearing off on the edges of the tailpiece, but is still intact on the flat surfaces.

P.S. Clear fingernail polish will work as a lacquer replacement to slow the oxidization process, but it can be tricky to apply evenly, so it isn't always an improvement in appearance.

When I bougth this bass the tailpiece don?t have more lacquer or something like that.
I?m just polish the piece with a special product very used in Brasil to bronze.
Have I apply some lacquer on the tailpiece?
In my Distillate the same polish are done and the oxidization process not start yet(1 year ago).

My '78 Series I has a tailpiece that is definitely plated and the plating is wearing off. I don't know what kind of metal is underneath the plating, but it doesn't seem to be brass. One of these years I would love to get a replacement.

Bob, you are right; plated was the wrong word. My brain cells weren't functioning properly. I've been looking into Ginko Biloba; it supposed to help with the memory problems. To quote Mica, If you're noticing some tarnishing under the clear finish on the tailpiece, you'll have to remove the finish and then use the Flitz on the bare brass.
