Following on the previous,beautiful thread, I received tonight a bass that appears to be its near brother or sister!
Thanks so much to Danomats - Dane - you are one of the nicest, most thoughtful, interesting people I've met. This bass spent the better part of 35 years sitting under a bed and it shows minimal wear and amazing original luster.
Upon opening the case (black with 4 latches) I saw a near mint, barely played 75 short scale walnut bass. I've asked Mica to see if the build card still exists. Lovely - light at 8.4 lbs, GREAT finish with nary a mark and the straightest, smoothest, fastest neck and frets I've ever felt. Original Alembic 5 page users guide and a silver colored DS5 just like the one I have with my 74 shortie. I'll setup some more pictures, but here are a few. I feel very lucky tonight! Yes Todd ,
I still do play the Trumpet. There seem to be quite a few Musicians that play the Trumpet that also play Bass , so what's up with that ? What an AWESOME find of a Bass you have come across! Congratulations and Best regards to you as well!

So, though an Alembic by any other name... I'm thinking of possible monikers - Sleeping beauty and Rip (Rip Van Winkle) come to mind! Any suggestions are most welcome!

You have all the reasons to feel lucky Todd, that's a great find ! For the name...Highlander....so many years old but no signs of age

PS: played trumpet in my teen age but was too young and silly to appreciate such a great instrument.

Time Machine is also clever though not as succinct as Highlander. Grendel? Brent, I assume this to be a Beowulf reference and if so, would refrain from its use as an appellation - no death and destruction associated with this music maker! Ah music, sweet language of emotion....
