Keavin, Thanks for sharing such an important piece of Bass History. Those early Alembic basses put a smile on my face everytime.

Incredible looking bass. What are the controls, it would be interesting to know just how advanced Alembic were in '72.

seriesI med scale w/seriesII controls,one vol for each pup,one master vol, two filters, two CVQ's, the two little holes are the preamp trim pots & the toggle is stand by. alembic is still the same today as they were in 72,the series electronics are just quieter,this has been my main axe since 1980,i traded an Ibanez artist a fender jazz & $2,000 cash to guitar center in san francisco,,,its strange because this bass sat on the wall forever in that store (Guitar Center)nobody would buy it so one day i gave up two basses,and did the rest in payments .

I agree, that one (post #550, 2nd one up) is really nice. Amazing what nice shape it's in, and it's the first time I've really appreciated the placement of the logo and name.

Very interesting, and a little puzzling, how the neck woods blend into the body - looks like there are just three laminates going all the way through, clearly not as wide as the neck. Is this some sort of halfway bookmatch to center or something?

Agreed, that first picture is hot, your best yet.
Bob, Vigier used to do the same thing--build a neck-through-body with a dovetail near the bridge. I never asked why, but it's interesting to see similar ideas crop up over great distances, isn't it?
