Kevin Thomson- Sweet Comfort Band

Plenty of good Alembic footage in the first minute of this video...  I remember this song (my Dad used to play it), but never knew it was a Series I.  Played with a pick- nice tone IMO.

I beleive that is the bass that now (did?) belong to club member Alembic_Doctor (Doc Green). Check in the '07 Bay area Alembic Gathering pictures. He made it sound pretty great, too!

Just came across this old post.  Kevin Thompson was one of my favorites and, along with SC, made me want an Alembic.  I am trying to paste a link, but not sure I am doing that correctly.  If it doesn’t work you can search YouTube with “Kevin Thompson bass solo.”  There is another song that they played live, where Kevin, and guitar player Randy Thomas, traded licks, and this shows Kevin’s talent (without the delay and wah effects in the solo clip.). We lost Kevin a couple of years ago.  I always wondered where his basses ended up.  I think the original pst was made before his death. He became paralyzed because of a back injury and maybe he sold/gave away the basses before he died.  There is a video from a memorial service where I believe his son is playing bass, but I don’t think it is an Alembic.    I believe Kevin also may have also had a 4 string Alembic.

If anyone has any info on what happened to Kevin’s basses, please let us know...or to correct this if I have posted erroneous info.

More great footage of Kevin’s prowess (at least in my opinion) on the 5 string Alembic.  I believe this would have been around 1977, 78, or so.  I would be interested in knowing more info about the bass.  It seems like a very skinny neck for a 5 string.  I wouldn’t think there were very many 5 strings around at that time.  Kevin was a California guy, I wonder if it was custom made for him.

I just realized it is Kevin Thomson, not Thompson.

A little more research completed... I believe the bass Doc Green purchased was the 1980 4 string, S2.  The one in these videos is a 5, and the videos were filmed in 1977.  Kevin’s son (Elijah) is a bass player, but I only see photos oh him with a Gibson.  There is a post from Kevin himself, when his son was selling the 4.   So I wonder if Kevin sold the 5 when he bought the 4... or what happened to it.   It looks like it has been awhile since the Doc was active here.  If anyone has any info, it would be fun to know.  Thanks

Well, it's a 5er with a high C added instead of a low B.

I have had one of his basses for a few years, the 1980 Series II with the Kahler tremelo.

I remember that bass... #80-1504. I never, ever forget an Omega-cut. Glad to see someone still keeping it played! Would love to see some new pictures of it sometime.

I owned the SCB bass for several years (see the 1st pic in "Post a Pic...). I sold the bass to a guy in Seattle a few years back. It's still getting played as far as I know.
Here's some background on the bass
