The shockwaves of Cliff's death reverberated more soundly than even those of Archduke Ferdinand...truly one of the greatest losses ever.

My favorite recorded Cliff moment:  that really cool high-register fill in Am I Evil right after the breakdown....the engineer really pushed his fader up on that one.

I really don't get comparing the death of some guy I never heard of from some death metal band (judging by the pictures) to World War I.  A bit over the top, maybe?

Yes I am sure it is a bit over the top.  But I remember that day very well though.  I was in high school and everyone acted as if a close family member had died.  Metallica has a very close following and the death of their bassist was a very sad moment.

I was attempting an aggrandizement.  Looks like I succeeded.

Hey fc - resurrecting this old thread to post a few more pics of Cliff with his Alembic. Maybe you haven't seen these yet.

ok, i can sort of understand not being a Metallica fan, but how can you not be a big fan of all the bass players that they have had, Cliff Burton-bass genious and crazy fast with his fingers, Jason Newsted-very melodic rhythems and use of chords in his bass solos, Robert Trujillo-not my favorite but still a damn good bass player

Yeah, the pic with his SB-1000 and Mesa rig is great, too. Looks like it must have been either Donington '85 or Day on the Green '85. Well, if there are any newly found Alembic pics, I guess this is where they'll end up!

Just an FYI. Cliff's Black Alembic was stolen out of his car in Castro Valley. I am not sure of the date but it was sometime in 85.

I dont know if Alembic has any record of this Spoiler or it was reported stolen to them. It could be that Cliff never wrote down the serial? It would be intresting to find out as I am sure the bass is in circulation and someone may own it and not know its history.
