Here's a very quick mock-up with materials:

I also dropped it on an old picture of your bass to start talking about the placement:

We tried the silver sand areound the Ash circle, and left it off the Ebony one - it looked so cool just emerging out of the Coco Bolo.

i concur on the no silver round the outside. i love the drool... lol
the right eye looks a teeny weeny bit crosseyed and we should have a little more shade difference from the flesh of the ear and the background.
mica-what you think about going continuous background using the coco that will be cut out from the bout instead of the ash. that might really look likes he's coming out of the bass.
i think theres enough contrast so it doesnt wash out. oh damnation- i remember we have the predrilled holes under it...
let me know what you think...
or if you want to stick with the ash, can we align the grain with the direction on the coco?
give me a jingle. i will be working from home thursday. oh ands thanks much

You guys can go on about drool, backgrounds, etc, but I think there's something wrong about the tongue.

Maybe it's just me, and I'm not really into wolves, or the whole historiical context here. But for starters, I would flip the tongue around the Y-axis, and start it coming out of  the mouth just a little bit lower.

Or maybe just move it down a little, I don't know. It just doesn't look quite right to me. Not complaining, it's a nice piece of work - just think maybe it  could be a little better.

But again, I don't know what it's supposed to look like.

I think it's a pretty amazing piece.  The only thing that looks kind of odd to me is that the ash circle and silver ring aren't continued through the mouth area.  Undoubtedly this is a compromise since the original design had the muzzle extending outside of the circle.  I would assume that they tried it both ways and decided that it worked better this way, particularly for showing the teeth.  I might continue the ash between the tongue and the lower jaw, though, while leaving it as-is within the mouth to highlight the teeth.

The detail of the snout is exceptional, and I hope the eyes really com out like that.  They really grab the attention.

Of course, the only opinions that matter here are Jeff's and the artists who are doing the creating.  If you asked each of us what we thought, you'd get dozens of comments on preferences and adjustments.  That's the nature of art.  There's no one right answer.

Looking good, Jeff!
