Adam's getting another custom bass! Here's the tantalizingly bare neck:

Not much yet, but every bass starts with a neck.

This is the neck, now with Ebony front veneer and Rosewood fingerboard.

Things are progessing enough that Bob has a few questions before it's too late to turn back:

1. Blue paint: since the peghead has an Ebony front veneer, do you want the body only to be blue or the body and the back of the neck?

2. Ebony front electronics plate: typical Spoiler shape or do you want it closer to the picture you provided or do you want something completely different?

3. Battery access: should it be in the main front electronics compartment or do you want a single battery backplate?

Hi Mica.
1. only daphne blue on the body
2. typical spoiler shape is fine
3. susan requested a single battery backplate for easier access.  i'm all for it.
Thanks!

Getting ready to do the routing, and there's another decision to make.   Here's the standard Spoiler backplate:

And up close to see how close it gets to the pickups:

  Bob suggested this plate shape:

So we'll need to know if you want to: a) stick with the original SPoiler plate shape b) use Bob's suggested plate shape c) design something else entirely  Also a little update on the neck end of business:

Hi Mica.
I like the original spoiler shape.  So, let's go with option A.

Just a reminder...the bass was ordered with a single fatboy pickup in the sweet spot.
Thanks!
Adam

Okay, part of the routing is done, but there is still a great deal of concern over the plate shape you selected for the front routing:

Here it's a little more onvious what we're all talking about in the shop:

The Spoiler plate shape is awfully close to the bridge block and pickup, and the Skylark shape is much more similar to the photo you sent in with your original request. Peter and Bob are hoping you'll reconsider the shape. Whaddayathink?

hi mica.
no problem w/ the plate shape.  we can go w/ peter and bob's recommendation.

my concern is with the pu location as when i spoke w/ susan way back (a yr ago) we discussed the sweet spot being in the middle (brigde & neck).  just like the old distillate japanese basses.  it looks like this bass is routed w/ the pu pretty far back toward the brige.  so, can the pu location be moved forward?  if not, can we add another pu at the neck?  thanks, adam

First round of the blue:

It's really hard without having our monitors calibrated to eachother, but does this blue look close to what you had in mind? If I didn't know you called this color Daphne blue, I would describe it as a bright baby blue.

Ready for probably the last clear coat:

The color looks different in every room. I think it's because we're just used to natural finishes!
