Big fast forward time:

 Lots less red than the other bass. But the camera isn't capturing the blend between the amber and red. With some adjustments, you can see the blend better here:

 It's no way near this dark, but it shows where the colors mix.   Bob wants to spray a little more on the bottom edge to even it out. You can let me know if that's the only place to pull more red over the front.  On the flipside:

 No red over the heel.

Yes, the bass in Mica's photos above is the re-build of this one:
 

 
Because the headless custom was fully insured (through Heritage Insurance) I was able to replace the neck and body with what you see in Mica's pictures. The electronics and hardware from the old bass will wind up in this new one, which is named Faun.  (As in Lebowitz, from the movie Animal House.) Hopefully this sad episode will soon be over forever!

OUCH!!!  I missed this.  What happened to that poor bass?  That is one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

Man, it kills me to even think about this...
I was just about to start a gig in Philly.  The bass was on a guitar stand, not plugged in, and nobody was within 10 feet of it.  Somehow, it fell off the stand and hit the stage face-first. I heard a crash, looked over my right shoulder, and saw that the headstock had snapped off completely.  I haven't had a bass in a guitar stand since.

:-(  Thanks for recounting that horrible moment for me.  That is just painful.
 
I don't use guitar stands at gigs where my band isn't the only one playing - I don't trust other people on stage.  I don't leave any bass on a stand until all the setup is done and the sound man is finished mucking about, running cables, setting up mics, etc...  I also only use the little stubby A-frame stands that support the instrument by the body only (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GtrStdSm/).  I highly recommend those for anyone who uses a stand on stage.

btw- I love the name for the new one.  That mynx... did she put you up to this?

Speaking of thread hi-jacks, for what it's worth, which is probably nothing, a quick Google suggests that in the script it might actually be Fawn Liebowitz; at least it appears to be the most common spelling on the web.  And for you old folks trying to remember; kiln accident.

Right! The original batch of quilted maple which Susan and Mica thought would contain the top for the rebuilt bass was destroyed in - you guessed it - a kiln explosion at the wood supplier. Dave, you are right on the spelling, too.  I should have known better - she was making me a pot.

This story just gets better and better.  It sucks that it happened in the first place but at least you seem to have a sense of humor about it.
