Tom's Custom "Shorter" Scale Bass
« on: January 30, 2009, 05:47:21 PM »
Got the top wood chalked out:

Which coordinates so nicely with the peghead veneers:

This body shape is sort of a scaled down version of the 3/4 body shape that Olie loves so much. It's almost a 3/4 3/4... does that make it a 9/16? Anyway, the shape turned out great, here's the plan:

dave, I've been in love with this Entwistle bass {the 4 string version} since I was in 8th grade. I'm now 44 and the dream is about to come true. I'm 4'11 and usually play a mustang or Hofner because of me size. We were going to go with the Darling body, but I showed Mica this photo and she came up with this totally custom project. This will be a 28 scale bass! A dream come true.

This will be an interesting project!  Is that Anniversary electronics sketched on the drawing?

How long does the finishing process for cocobolo take? I know there are many, many coats. {more than I have in my closet}
and...you made  the neck 28' scale.. 1.5 at the nut and 2.1 at the 24th fret. Will the neck look like it's tapering too wide when it reaches the 24th fret in relation to it's overall look?. I just don't want the neck to appear stubby. in relation to the body. Maybe it's the angle of the picture you posted.
