Dave's Chocolate Quilted Maple Further
« on: July 01, 2010, 04:59:19 PM »
Here's a few images I've been collecting for you.   The sample of the Chocolate Quilted Maple with a sealer coat of finish on it:

Parts of your guitar body freshly cut:

Scraps from making your guitar body (and a couple of others):

Body rough shaped and nearly ready to glue to neck:

That is some killer wood. I don't recall ever seeing chocolate maple before and the purpleheart is amazing.

The sealer shot is cool!  And the body halves are intriguing.

I am always fascinated   when I see wood varieties that I have never seen before and I have never seen Chocolate maple.

It's a naturally dark piece of bigleaf Maple, a natural stain if you will. Our supplier coined the name, and we thought it was great.

Woods like these would often be discarded as defective in years gone by. I'm so glad we can give some of them an artistic purpose.

Yes , the appearance  of the Chocolate maple definitely will  add to the uniqueness of this instrument in defining it's individuality.  Beautiful.
Thanks for the explanation.

That is undoubtedly the coolest maple I have ever seen.  But is the head in the upper left of the sealed section in the 1st pic laughing or screaming?

Some other progress in carving.  Freshly arrived in carving:

Today most of the body sanding was completed:

Don't worry... the figuring will pop right back when the sealer coats hit. Fine sanding really dulls the look of figured Maples.  and the backplates were fitted:

The heel is still in the carving process:

As is the peghead at the other end of the neck:
