I'm sure some of you have thought of this before; I got the idea from Steve Kimock. I wanted to use my Blaster with several guitars, so I got my local stompbox builder to install it in a box with in and out jacks. I put a belt clip on it later so I could hang it on a guitar strap.

At one point I considered trying to sell something like this on the forum and decided that it cuts too close to Alembic's own merchandise. There are printed circuit boards out there for the adventurous do-it-yourself types though.

The Alembic cable is very appealing, but costs over twice as much as my Blaster-in-a-box. Plus mine has a 9-v adapter port.

Personally I just don't like the idea of the preamp being hard wired to the cable. I'm sure it makes a better connection than a regular input jack, but it seems like it could be prone to mechanical strain over time. Like the first time I accidentally step on the cable.

Kevin,

I couldn't agree more. Cables can get quite messed up and the thought of damaging one that cost $400 is quite unsettling. Would feel much better if there were 1/4 I/O's on it like in the OP's design.
