I use heavy strings, tune low, play hard and floor it. Floor it. That's technical talk.

No picture, but I saw your bass hanging in the final cure area today

So izz like ham? No? Or izz like deezze boyz?

Tuner is a must. Every gig is in a loud venue, even the dressing rooms are loud. Lately when we open for a larger well known group, we only get 1 shot at winning over a new crowd. You never want to be the guy who didn't have his stuff together. You'd never hear the end of it.

I remember once (early 1980's) when at a gig at a  local venue( The Tower ,in Brisbane ,Ca.) where I was in the  ''  house band we had  guest performers  sit in quite a bit. One time there was a guitar player that had talked our 'FEARLESS LEADER into letting him do a whole set of SRV tunes. This guy was a real SRV purist so the first thing he told me was that I had to tune down a half step to accommodate the original arrangements. I like very high string tension in my Bass set-up but also i do not like my action too high . At that gig I just happened to have taken a bass that was strung with strings that were 90-40 extra light  to experiment with bass chords. Those strings turned into 'WET NOODLES  tuned down a half step!  If I would have known that the SRV guy was going to sit in I would have taken a Bass strung with heavier strings!

Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains uses 1/2 step  tuning exclusively but also drops it sometimes, it's definitly a tuning worth  flirting with

I use the 1 bass but the guitarist brings at least 3 axes. 1 for reg drop 1/2 step down, 1 for drop D 1/2 step down and regular low C tuing not 1/2 step down. I just play it all on my 5 string. I sometimes bring a spare bass, just in case but have yet to need to switch. Unless I hit the lottery, there will be no spare for the 10'er.

A snapshot of your bass in all its blackness:

Still just hanging out in the final cure for rubout, but it's already bad.

Well there has to be some left for Flip. I can't horde all the darkness.

Nigel: It's like, how much more black could this be and the answer is none. None more black.

Looking forward to the completion but not anxious.
Now with some more intricate instruments nearing completion, the work can continue on us simpler folk.
Happy to only have snow in Jersey and not mudslides.
Now for some tea and a debate with myself on when to fire up the snowblower.

Same here: Looking forward to the completion but not anxious. (that's for my bass, also a black 3 pickup monster)
Lots of snow and just starting on my second cup of tea (after work)

They had some black paint left, almost enough for the body and the front of the headstock :-)

Hoping to see some new pics of your 10-er soon, royal badness indeed :-)

I'm watching for pictures of anybody's progress to put off deciding whether to fire up the snowblower before fixing the cracked wall from last night's earthquake. (Earthquake?!?!?  I thought I lived in Illinois!  What is this nonsense?!?!)  A cup of tea sounds nice.
