Here's the piece of Coco Bolo that Chip selected for your bass:

  The area he's got in mind is highlighted here:

  It will look a little more rich with finish, but it's low-contrast and got good general orange color. Hope you like it!

I like the area that he has highlighted, but its hard for me to visualize what the woods color and look will be like when finished?

Coming at it from the other direction, is there a coco bolo instrument that struck you as being particularly beautiful? If so, we can see if we have anything that looks similar to it.

First off congrats Brad!
 
Second, I read your post above and I just wanted to chime in about using jpegs (or really just about any image format) to communicate the idea of color.  
 
In a nutshell, every computer monitor is different and the actual color that a monitor displays is up for grabs.  Unless you have a true pro computer monitor that is correctly color calibrated and you use special file formats that preserve all color info and the person on the other end has the same quality pro calibrated monitor setup then you're out of luck. Now figure different video cards in and it gets really complicated. Unless you've got a monitor like the guys at Pixar use then all bets are off.
 
If you pull up those pictures on any two different monitors and put the two computers side by side I'll guarantee that one will look very red and the other will look much more orange in comparison.
 
I just wanted to point this out because I wouldn't want there to be the possibility of a miscommunication about your desired tint of coco bolo between you and the fine folks at Alembic.
 
Personally I don't think that it's possible to get coco bolo in any color other than georgeous but that's just my opinion.

have to agree with you Jim about all coco bolo being beautiful!
Monitor wise, I use a 21 dell with a sony trinitron tube set at 1600x1200 and an ATI radeon 9800 Pro video card 128 Mb.
The last pic of the coco bolo looks exactly like the coco bolo on Jacko's Rogue-absolutely gorgeous. Maybe I'm lucky to have the monitor set up well, and what I think is a great monitor. I swapped it 2 years ago when I had a dell 15 flat panel-no money changed hands, and this one was used for doing serious drawings on Autocad by an Architect company (they change them every year) so it had to be top spec. Even for gaming(which I don't do much of at all!) it seems to give the true colours of most things. Even the pic in my profile of my Series 1, looks just as it REALLY is under good light. What am  I trying to say?-maybe it's--TRUST the masters at Alembic!!-They won't put you wrong if you've specified what you are looking for. Secondly, spend a few bucks and stay with the old CRT screens for better pics. I've NEVER regretted the change.

I have a boat anchor 21 Trinitron too George for exactly the same reason. I had a Dell 19 flat panel that I sent back the next day because the colors were so bad. I just can't stand not having a monitor that shows excellent color. Mine is a little worse for wear and the color isn't as good as it was in it's prime but I think it will be a long time before I switch from a high quality CRT monitor.

Excuse me for interupting. I still have pictures of the bass in the middle, the EVH 5 string that is. If you look at the trussrod cover, you'll see some lights reflecting in it. So the color of the bass is a bit different. In fact, the lighting effect has been created with a christmas tree. A cheap plastic one to be honest  So here's a more real picture of the coco bolo. Still nice though.
