Wow!

I love Bird's-eye Maple, and this is an exceptional piece.  The neck is no slouch either:

Ooooooo!!!!! That is a particularly beautiful piece of maple. Am I seeing red? Is the body vermilion? and the neck lams? Whatever the combination, it really is beautiful.

Yeah, the body is Vermilion, and the accent lams are alternating Vermilion and Maple.

The neck is Bird's-eye Maple with Vermilion laminates and a Cherry center laminate. The whole thing is just awesome.

Thank you, Hollis, and everyone! Everything these people build is beautiful! Have these guys ever built anything not beautiful? I can't wait to see the inlay Susan is designing!
It's a caveman. apparently, buying an Alembic is to commission a work of art! Do they build amps?

No amps, but their pre-amps are just as awesome.

Welcome Charles - Yes, you nailed it. Ordering a custom Alembic is commissioning a work of art. I am still thrilled every time I open the case and see my custom Skylark. Every detail is sublime - in the visual sense, the tone, and the playability.

Can't wait to see your Further through the process.

Charles:

Lookin' good!  I really like the look of the Vermilion neck lams.  Are you expecting any different sound from the usual Purpleheart lams? I also dig the Bird's-eye Maple.  I have an '83 Electrum with a Bird's-eye top.  I haven't seen a lot of Alembics in Bird's-eye.  Your's looks like an exceptional piece.  In the words of the Beatles:  It won't be long, yea, yea, yea ...  (Well, maybe a little long - but it will undoubtedly be well worth the wait).

Bill, the guitar one.

Susan told me to expect the vermilion to warm the tone up a bit, as purpleheart tends to be a bright wood. I've seen high end marimbas made of vermilion that ring like bells. They did pick out an exceptional birdseye face.(sniff) lot's of swirly-quilty movement around the birdseyes, and like Mica said, the neck's no slouch either! I was worried that there might not be enough definition between the neck lams and the body lams, but I should know better by now!

Exceptional piece is right on the money, Mica! Isn't it great when Alembicians see their unique and beautiful wood combinations come to life?  You are a fortunate soul, Charles.  Enjoy!

Charles,

Your beautiful guitar has caused a few players to now  consider the Birds Eye Vermilion combo for their own instrument. Looks like you may have started a trend.
