I absolutely love the 'Grateful Alembic' logo! Now this little o'Deadhead REALLY wishes he was living closer to Santa Rosa so his EVH and Orion could also be graced with one of these!

Hey Mica,

I just got the bass, and it is the best playing, sounding, looking, etc... bass i have ever had the pleasure of holding. I already feel at home on it, as if i was measured before it was made :]
I really appreciate all the extra work you and val put in to updating this thread, etc. (thanks for making sure it got a high c, val!!). I'm sure you hear it all the time, but that doesnt make it any less true; you guys are the greatest.  With no other company do I feel like I actually have a say in what happens with the product. Again, I truly appreciate everything you guys have done... and I'm already running through ideas for my next one (but i think this will tide me over for a while!) :]

Thank all of you so, so much.
Austin.

Congratulations, Austin....she is absolutely beautiful. Let us know how all that ebony sounds when you come down off of your Alembic-induced 'high', OK?
Very best of luck with her....
Correction: there is 'much' money to be made above the fifth fret....

Austin:

Way cool, dude!  Incredible top.  If it sounds even half as good as it looks it will be one helluva bass!  May you play in good health and make a lot of wonderful music.

As I said before Austin, I really love the exotic look of the ebony you selected for the laminates on this bass.  With the ebony neck lams, she should sound powerful and majestic.  Now that you have the bass, please tolerate a few questions.  How much does she weigh?  How does the bass balance on the strap with the ebony in the neck?  And, of course, how would you characterize its sound in the bass, midrange and treble? Thank you and congratulations.

Thanks guys....
I really cant get over how amazing this bass is :]
Jeff: After i saw your post, i decided to go play her for a while with your questions in mind... not that i really needed a reason to play her, but all the better, anyway.  The bass weighs very SLIGHTLY less than my MK Standard point in coco bolo.  So what the balance k drops in weight from the shape it definitely makes up for with all the ebony.  It balances very well on a strap, but kind of takes a neck dive when sitting.
As far as the sound is concerned, I'm not sure it can accurately be put into words :]
It has the epic set up on it; Volume, Pan, Bass, Treble. I like to keep the electronics pretty simple, and just play with my amps and effects, etc. But direct to my Ashdown/Ampeg set up, it sings in several voices.  My favorite so far reminds me a lot of my graphite neck basses, which i love.  I dont know if you're familiar with Oteil Burbridge, but i've found a pretty similar tone to his, and it's GORGEOUS.  It also gets a pretty authentic Jazz Bass thump sound, but with clearer highs.  I've only had it for a day, so i'm still experimenting.  All in all, it's the cleanest sound i've ever heard.

If you can't tell from my rant, I'm in love. So i must get back to her! :]
Thanks again for all the comments, guys!!!!!
