Hi Graeme.  There's not much to look at yet, but here's where you'll get to see the whole thing take form. Here's the very first part of your bass:

Jim.
As you can see from the title change, I'm getting a rogue - 5 string fretless with coco bolo top laminate and purpleheart neck laminates.

Cool, it's definitly sounding like a CocoBolo christmas over at Alembic.  I think I must be the only person getting a bass done that isn't going to be CB.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked the top, it's really unusual, and dynamic. Bob was happy you shared his taste.

Mica and/or Val:

Is there anymore like this?  I'd be very interested in a piece like this for the back of my custom Further.

One with the clamps in action:

And that top is under the gluing caul:

Bill, we've always got weird wood around. Of course, no two pieces are ever the same, but I bet we've got something that has a similar "spirit" as this one. When are you going to be in Santa Rosa next?

Mica or Val, What a great piece of Coco! Is that picture oddly exposed or am I seeing lots of yellow in the grain? From past experience, what will the color of this board end up like after you shoot the finish? Will it be more toward the reddish-orange end of the spectrum? It seems like cocobolo changes color so much every time  a picture is posted on the same project that it becomes difficult to make a decision based on what I see. One that comes to mind is Rory's cocobolo bass in that the first posting of the raw piece the wood appears dark  brown yet when finished a beautiful deep reddish tone surfaces. I find that facinating but difficult to predict. I leave it in your expert hands. Mike

hey Mica.
happy new year and I hope your move went well. Valentino mentioned that the fingerboard was almost finished. Any chance of some pictures to keep me motivated?
