Michael's Redwood Burl Series Custom

Your bass has good timing! Every time I go into the shop, there's your bass, with something interesting happening to it. First, the laminates before glue up:
Flooded with acetone, you get a sneak peek at the finished appearance, though Redwood usually isn't quite as dark with the finish as it is with the solvent. Here's the top after gluing the bookmatch the center:
Meanwhile, the neck was constructed:
Then the pieces came together:
During the early carving stage:
Next stop will be routing then finish, then the big wait. Hope these photos will ease some of the anxiety during that time.

That side picture is pretty neat; nice combination of woods! Looking forward to seeing the finished Burl Redwood.

Yes, it's Flame Maple. And while this bass closely resembles Michael's bass, this one isn't his! I'll start a new thread for it later.

Was this one ever done? It'd be great to see with finish.

I'd love to see this one too! It would make a great pair with
this one.
(Unfortunately, that's not in my future... anytime soon anyway. But I'd still love to see it!)

Look what I found

This is like finding a long lost brother that I never had. (See my post above.) I wish I could have both. I'm still happy with mine, but this one sure looks awesome, and I think I know how it sounds.

Burl Redwood is a great wood. I'm fortunate to have it on my latest series I bass and it looks incredible. In some ways it's like cocobolo in the way that it's colour looks dramatically different depending on the daylight and can go from from a rich brown to lovely reddish orange.
