No this was not an Alembic.  This is a neck I made for a solid/hollow bass.  But the idea behind it is just about exactly what you are talking about except that this is a flat top bass.
 
Oh, I see you list your home page as mimf!  Maybe you saw the finished product a few weeks ago...

I can't find the pics on the forum anywhere...Thats what I want to do but with a tapered tail like a languedoc, with the center routed like yours.  How much sustain did that baby have?

Well, since you asked so nicely...  It's an experimental hollow body electric.  The sustain, and everything else about the sound, is superb.  You can't tell from the pictures but the headstock, fingerboard, front "shim" (on the body) are from one continous piece of macassar ebony.

Hey Doctor!  Did you ever inquire to Mica or Val about this idea?  If they would do it I'd be happy to talk them through the process, ha ha.  As if I could teach them anything...
 
But I think it would be an awesome instrument!
