Mica: How about Poplar?

Have you ever used Poplar for the top of a bass?  Some Poplar I've seen at a lumber yard close to me has some interesting colors(Black, Green, Grey, Yellow, and almost Purplish), and interesting grain.  Plus, Poplar is rather cheap.  If you have, do you have any pictures?Thanks for any info.

I've got no recollection of using poplar in any part of an instrument, and hence, no pics.
