Anyone out there play a baritone scale guitar?
I have this crazy idea to play a little more guitar and i like the idea of a baritone scale.
I was just woundering how usesful it would be.
The B to B tuning and all.
And if Mica is out there could it be built with a epic body, This would keep my 4 epic basses happy.
How do you think a epic 6 thin string would look

i think that would be a very beautiful instrument. enough guitar to rip through the highs, enough bass to keep the lows solid. orion guitars can be ordered with a baritone scale and an epic body is (wait for it) a free option, as is the cone peghead to match (if you so desire).

Thanks, i have never playered a alembic guitar other then bass,any other tweekes on this i should consider for this instrument?

i've never played an alembic period (much to my disappointment). but if you give me some idea what your looking for i might be able to help. for example if your looking for strong bass tones maybe a vermillion body, if you want snap maybe ash. tops are again going to depend on the tonally spectrum you want. but give some ideas and maybe me and the some of the old guys can help.

Hi Doug,

We've made short scale Epics, and I can't forsee any problems with making a 28 scale baritone guitar with the Epic body shape (we make them in the Orion shape regularly).

Usefulness? I feel the baritone is the ultimate rhythm guitar. It's also a natural for composition, working on bass lines and leads as you need to. The throaty sound is also excellent for blues.

To emphasize the interesting bassiness of a bari, I'd suggest Coco Bolo for the top. It will preserve the highs and keep the lows nice and large. Mahogany for the body will keep the most versatility. Consider the kinds of sounds you expect from the guitar, and we can suggest some wood combinations to make it the natural sound of the guitar.

here's a question for Mica, actually a couple. why does the orion guitar come with treble and bass controls instead of a filter and Qswitch (i believe its the only guitar setup that way)? for a baritone which controls would be the best? wait thats got more to do with preferance i'm sure. this is not my dream guitar, but i'd be interested to know.

Be a bass player mostly and from time to time asked to play guitar, I love the deep but clear sound of the alembics, as for guitar sounds i like the way a les paul sounds for most playing but i ,am most drawen to the sound of the big fat jazz boxes ( insert maker here ).
