Rami, just to confirm, your Excel has a walnut top and maple bottom sandwiching an ash layer? or is the neck made of maple with a pau ferro board and both top and bottom are walnut sandwiching an ash layer? THX, Jo

Hi Manfred, wow, that would've been serendipitous! Thanks for the link although I couldn't seem to find it on the site. How much was it? was the price in Dutch guilders?

I live in Frederick, Maryland, which is about an hour NW of Washington, DC.

Generally, how would the sound compare to Rami's Excel? I noticed the p/u is right in front of the bridge whereas it's midship on Rami's Walnut fretless. I'd be playing near the bridge so I gather it would produce a stronger signal. But I'm wondering about the overall tone difference.

By the way Rami, I found your Excel collection on another thread. NICE!!!! I am drooling.

Is there anyway you could send me a short MP3 sample file of you playing a few chops on your walnut fretless?

Hey Jo,

My Excel has a Walnut top, Purpleheart laminate under the top, and an Ash body.
The neck is 3 piece maple with 2 walnut pinstripe laminates and the Pau Ferro fingerboard.
I have another fretless Excel (a 5 string) that has a pickup closer to the bridge. It actually has 2 pickups - one in the center and one close to the bridge. It has a pan control so you can hear the difference in tone between the two. It's not that big a difference. I actually prefer the fuller, rounder tone of the pickup in the mid position. In any case, it has Treble and Bass controls that allow you to find the tone you want.
I just think that the Excel is one of the best naturally sounding fretless Basses I ever played.
You really owe it to yourself to try one. I'm sure you'll love it.

I'm sure that if Jaco was alive today, and tried an Excel, he'd be VERY impressed!

Hmm Jo,

Paul was right, it has been sold. I'm afraid it was in Euro's.

Take your time, you will find one soon enough. One of the great things about this forum is that other people will keep you informed if they find something.

Not cheap but Basscentral has some excel basses on their site.
