Is it ok to use a preamp with no load?
« on: February 06, 2014, 02:10:03 AM »
Many of the gigs i'm doing these days have a back line so we take the opportunity to travel light. However usually this means I get a less than good bass rig. I know JJ uses a DI on stage and a monitor but I'd like to take my F1-x at these gigs and use the DI on that. I have done this in the past and plugged into the return on the bass rig so as to bypass the pre-amp but many times the bass sounds rubbish still so on those occasions I'd like to use the  the F1-x basically as a DI without anything connected to the rear output(s)?

I've read somewhere that it is not a good idea to use a valve amp with no load so would that also apply to a valve pre-amp ?

No problem at all.
Preamps do not need a load.
It's not the same as a power amplifier.
