    Looks like a female, unless it's very young.  The males develop a very prominent bump on the forehead.  I used to have a breeding colony.

Now that we've run the gamut of philosophical, ethical, behavioural, ichthyological (?) and other sciences, I'm actually dying to see how the Dire Wolf turns out, LOL!
 
I was listening to a rare live Dire Wolf Europe '72 tour version last eve. (alas no Jerry on pedal steel..he played it on Looks Like Rain  instead!!!) and it peaked my interest.
