Buckeye Further
« on: July 14, 2005, 09:40:13 AM »
I have been looking at different woods and all the guitars in the custom archive.  Tell me what you think of this.  I guess it's sort of a rip off of Non-Stop Buckeye  I really like the Buckeye wood, and the maple/ebony neck that is on Non-Stop Buckeye.  I'm wondering if it's possible to make a Further guitar with those woods.  I'm not knowledgeable enough to know what the different woods do to the sound of the insturment.  Then, have a Mother of Pearl, Acrylic SYF inlay on the body where the wolf is on the Custom Further that is for sale in the shop.  Also, I noticed that the Alembic peg head logo is sort of the same shape as the bird tail piece.  Would it be possible to fashion a tail piece that is the shape of the cloud, then have an inlay hand coming down to the SYF inlay?  Kinda like the peg head logo on Dark Star, but the cloud is the tail piece, and the hand and SYF are inlays.  Any clue on a price for something like this?

Is there a build a custom template for guitars?

Matt - that sounds like an awesome guitar. I really like the idea of echoing the Alembic logo with a SYF at the tail. Buckeye burl is a beautiful choice for a Further IMHO. As far as pricing for something like this you could email Valentino for a quote - I would guess it would be a bit more than the Wolf Further in the online store.

Good Luck!

Hello Matt,

making a Further in Buckeye is not a problem.

The ebony in the neck is going to give you a bigger low end.
The top wood won't have nearly as much influence on the sound, since the Further is a neck-through.
The tailpiece would be very expensive and would fall under the same category as custom inlays; in other words it would be paid directly to us and there would be no discount. It would be  upwards of 1000$, depending on how complex the final design ends up being. We'd have to make samples to see if it works. The cloud & the hand would have to be stylized to eliminate some of the detail which would be really difficult (and even more expensive) to try and reproduce in brass.

The Guitar custom quote generator is not up yet, but Mica is working on it.
