Will Alembic install "other brand" neck on custom bass?
« on: February 11, 2007, 06:00:17 PM »
I have a fretless graphite neck which I would love to have installed on an Alembic bass. I noticed one of Alembics basses body style looks alot like the Bromberg model B-Quad. I had a fretless neck custom made for it but now I prefer the original fretted neck. Any comments or suggestions?

David,

Anything is possible, but Alembic's construction methods would make it a difficult and/or costly process.  All Alembic basses are either neck-thru or set neck- no bolt on necks (I'm assuming that the graphite neck you have is a bolt-on?)

I guess it would be physically possible to tear apart a bass in order to install the graphite neck, but if you're interested in the Alembic sound with an aftermarket graphite neck, I think you'd be better served to find a suitable aftermarket body, install Alembic electronics and then attach your bolt-on(?) graphite neck.

Yes, I see your point, Toby. Yes, it is a bolt on. Sorry I didn't make that clear. Perhaps my hard earned money would be better spent on a beautiful Alembic bass built using Alembic's tried and true construction methods. Thanks for the advice.

If you have a neck that you absolutely love, you could send it to Alembic and they will duplicate the profile for you on a custom bass.

Hi Dave,

At this point, making a bolt-on body is something we've got to say no to. Mostly because since it would be the first one we built, it would be wildly expensive and cost substantially more than it would be worth IMO.

For that neck, it would probably be better to buy a body from a company that routinely does just that as has been suggested. Also following Toby's suggestion is we could make you a set of Alembic electronics to drop in.

Bob's point is true too - we can replicate the feel of the neck on a wood neck for you. In most cases, this is not even an additional charge.
