Mica, I think im ready to start a custom.....
« on: May 26, 2007, 01:16:12 PM »
Hey there every1,  well that time is finally appearing when I can safely say that im ready to start pricing and planning my dream custom, ladies and gentlemen, the first john mcvie replica/signature.....For the longest time he has been my biggest inspiration for even picking up a bass,,  this model will be based on the original early model series 1 that he used during the late 70's, not to be confused with the stainless steel fingerboard series 1 that he also used.. anywayzz, mica, im all ears...whats next?

If you look on the main page- there is a link to 'find a dealer'

I think many chat back and forth with Mica about the design and once it's sorted out, they place their order with the dealer of their choice.  I havent' ordered a custom before and I'd be silly to recommend one over the other.  I'm sure others will chime in and let you know how things have gone for them in regards to dealers.  I doubt you'll find a bad one on the list- I don't think Alembic would allow somebody irresponsible to deal their instruments.

Good luck- it's gonna be a beauty when it's done.

So nice to see another Mcvie fan out there.
In the mid seventies I still was undecided between Bass or Guitar. After the Rumors album came out it was no contest.

I've visited Guitar Resurrection in Austin.  Very nice people.  They are authorized Alembic dealers.

When I ordered my custom I talked to my dealer first to let them know I was planning an order and roughly what it would be. I then talked with the folks at Alembic to nail down the specifics. After this I received the completed quote and feature prices from my dealer and finalized my order.

As for dealers I've always ended up with Beaver Felton at Bass Central but any of the folks Alembic deals with will all be reputable. It pretty much boils down to which one do you feel the most comfortable with.

i dealt with guitar res on a vintage bass they had
bass was mint and set up- i would recommend getting a couple of quotes. always better to deal in one;s back yard. most of the time you will be dealing direct with alembic anyway

Try Will Gunn. He's located in Iowa but the out of state sale will save you the sales tax. He's great to talk with and extremely knowledgeable about Alembics. Check him out in the dealer locator.

Hi Tracey,

Best thing is to call or email my mom or me. We can discuss the features and retail prices, and make the arrangements to send a custom quote to the dealer of your choice.

After the quote is approved, and the dealer accepts your deposit, your order will be in the queue for construction to start, and once it does, you'll be able to watch it take shape on the Factory to Customer section of the Club.
