My 25th anniversary idea
« on: July 10, 2008, 11:19:46 AM »
I spoke with Mica about another bass. I bought my first Spoiler in 83. My next idea is:
10 string neck through, Excel shape, red leds, Rouge guts, black finish, no inlays, ebony board, bird of prey tailpiece..
It seems there are a few chorused basses in the works so the fever is spreading.

25 years! Seems to me you ought to be buying a round for the house. I'll take mine in Coco Bolo. :-)

Sounds great Danno- I think the Bird of Prey tailpiece would look great with that body shape.  Do you have a bass with ebony neck lams?  I've never played one, but all the rave reviews convinced me to add one to the Elan they're building for me at the moment.

Somehow fitting to have an ebony laminate under all that black paint....

It reminds me of the lyrics to a Morrissey song, I wear black on the outside because black is how I feel on the inside....

I'm toying with the ebony lams, depends on what the final price is. There may be a few children on the auction block for this one.
25 years ago the Spoiler was $900 without a case. I got it at Sam Ash on 48th st. NYC. My addiction condition gets progressively worse.

I had a few other things planned for my custom, but the fanatical ravings of everyone who had ebony lams convinced me that adding one was worth adding the ebony and sacrificing a few bells and whistles aesthetically.

Now, is that a 10 string as in a fiver with octave strings...or a monster 10 tuned low-to-high C# F# B E A D G C F Bb?

Oh, I thought that meant basses that were used during a Greek play.  Thanks for helping me unlock the mystery, there, Riven.  Good work!

Just pulled the trigger with Susan. Changed it to a set neck and regular tailpiece for economy, Now to have a bake sale or tricky tray to pay for the new child.

Awesome Danno!  Will it be the 10 string you described with a set neck?

Congrats Danno,

You're definitely more of an Alembic addict than I am.  It's gonna be a BEAST!!!

P.S.  I shielded the control cavity of my T-Bird with copper tape.  It made a big difference, but still not 100%.  Unshielded, it was virtually unplayable with that hum. For a company with the 100+ year reputation of Gibson, I can't understand how little they care about their Basses.

My old tbird will be out on tour again with its new owner with Danzig this October. Its the Blackest of the Black tour. It will even stop in Toronto.  Good ol' Gibson. I can't figure them out either but I do love my Les Paul. Now I did install sperzels and emgs so that tells me something. I did the same to 2 strats and an Esquire Scorpion.
Now hopefully when I bring the new 10 out in however many months, the band will enjoy the new sound. It can definitely help with just 1 guitarist. If not there's always a solo project!
Hope all iswell and your collection is giving you great joy.

Danno,

Will your 10 be 5 doubles or 10 individual strings?  I'm curious about the tuning.
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around this new project. Definitely can't wait to see it.
