F1-X and what kind of power amp?
« on: March 30, 2011, 12:15:54 AM »
Hello there forum! Just purchased my first Alembic product - a used F1-X for 475 - and am looking for a power amp to power my 8x10 Ampeg fridge. I am looking for something at the maximum of 800 watts/ side into 4 ohms. One side will run the 4 ohm 8x10 and the other will run my dirty channel (a Sunn Coliseum into a 70s Bassman 4x12). I'm wondering if anyone has experience with a high-powered power amp of this sort and the F1-X?

Cheers!

I use a Stewart World 2.1,
It's rated at 650 watts per channel @ 4 ohms ,
not too heavy at about 17 lbs.

Sounds like a monster rig your putting together ~!

Yeah! I'm trying to put together a tone that combines both Geezer and Iommi on Into the Void : ) It's been a long quest but I feel pretty close to the end... if there ever is one!

So you've been using the Stewart with the F1-X I take it?

At this point i'm leaning towards a Crown XTI 2000 but am a bit hesitant as it appears I will need to buy a bunch of new cables as well. The Crown only does XLR in and Speakon out. Maybe i'll just bite the bullet and splurge, just got a massive tax return...

Yep, with a GT Trio before the F1-X for Clean/Overdrive.

There are (of course) many F1-x users here, I bet others will chime in,
The Crown XTI 2000 looks like a pretty good deal, I see one online for less than $400,
(I paid over 800 for the Stewart )

cheers

Yeah i'm deciding between the XTI and a Crest CA-9 at this point. Looks like they are both rated about the same, any thoughts on which might be a better brand? I am a total newbie on the power amp scene.

I have both an XTi and a Crest CA-9. The CA-9 is the best power amp I've played through for bass (except maybe a Crest 8001). However, it's a bit too much for my 50 year old back. So I am sticking with the XTi 4000. (And yes, the CA-9 is available. It's a beast!)

Well, I was hoping for something in the $500 range locally, so I'd be willing to chip in some for shipping. Let me find out how much it would cost to get it there from Boulder.

If the shipping costs aren't ridiculous i'd be interested in working something out. Thanks!

How much gear are you willing to ship to Portland, Edwin?

Are you playing around town, Neal?
