Is Moogerfooger MF-101 low pass filter redundant with onboard filter ?

I'm about to aquire an Essence, I currently have a Moogerfooger mf-101 low pass filter and wonder if I'm going to have much use for it since the Essence is equipped with it's own low pass filter? I've already decided that sometime in the future the Essence will be getting the 3 way Q switch. Opinions please- keep the mf-101 or turn it into more cash in the bass fund??

I would see how you can still incorporate it in a useful way as it may yield new, unique results.  
 
I still count on the Alembic SF2's LP filters even though I have anniversary/signature/distillate electronics (on various basses).

If you can afford to keep the mf-101 put it in your bag of tricks or on the shelf. I have got way too much stuff on my shelf ,____ but when I get an epiphany about a recording project or the such  where I can use a magic trick I keep justifying all my hoarding of gear ___ !  
 
 And when that piece of equipment made a  measurable difference you will be glad .

They are very different, so yes, it's worth having both. The onboard filter is more of a static tone control: dial in your tone and use it! The MF-101 is a dynamic filter with an envelope controller and external inputs to control the sweep. Much more of an effect. You'll see. When the Essence shows up, you'll discover what a great combination they are!

What Edwin said! I've been using Moogerfoogers for quite a while now, the MF-101 is a very powerful, versatile piece of equipment.

You can also get into control voltages (CV) with other Moogerfoogers, like the CP-251 control processor which is controlling the cutoff on this one (and actually using an Alembic bass this time!):

CV is basically using electronics to adjust the knobs - on this one it's a sample-and-hold, first doing the stepping at the beginning, then smoothed out so it's like using an expression pedal but random (needed my feet to do the bass pedals):
