Longest wait for a custom bass?
« Reply #15 on: July 10, 2011, 03:52:10 PM »
My first Dragon Wing was paid 9/08 and received 8/09.  The second one was authorized by UPS 1/10 and received 9/11.  I picked up two other Alembics in the interval to take the edge off.

This is an old post but I thought I would revive it.
How long has everyone's custom bass and guitars been taking? I am still waiting for my bass and have been waiting for 13 years as you can see by my old posts from 10 years ago.

Have you made an inquiry with Alembic?  My custom Further took almost three years, but a lot of that was due to my wanting some inlay work that Alembic had never done before.   It took them a while to figure it out how to get it done.    Thirteen years?    Did you ask them to grow the tree in-house?

Yes I have spoken to Alembic. There is custom electronics and it is going to be awesome when it gets done!  I just thought it would be good to re-vive this post and maybe get some respones that might help my cause.

I’ll be giving you a call today - I was discussing with mom last night. She’s been under the weather and didn’t get back to your last message. I have a load of very good news for you!

I never heard of Wal Basses so I looked into them.  They’re an outfit in England that makes bespoke Basses as well. The average turnaround for their product is 3 years. I can understand a year but three? Do they grow the trees themselves?

I had a custom Signature made in 2012. Nine months is all it took and I was very pleasantly surprised. Now its "custom" features did not include intricate inlays and it wasn't a Series I but this turn-around was much faster than I expected and was shorter than what I've experienced waiting for an electronics upgrade for a Series I shop night special (13-months and counting)

Yes, but in all fairness Brian, when you had the bass dropped off at the end of last year 2019,  I warned of a substantial delay in being able to start the upgrade because we were moving. I did underestimate the impact of moving on many delivery dates, but characterizing your current experience as a 13-month wait  is accurate, but without explanation, not entirely correct.
