Actually . . . the bigredbass is technically a Spoiler (2 AXY-4's, later traded out to FatBoy 4's, with a volume, tone, 4-way rotary selector plus a 1-way Q-Switch), but . . . .
It's a Series shape with the Omega cutout, Crown Five peghead, deluxe laminates (3 purpleheart stripes), mahogany wings and quilt maple top and peghead faces. And it's see-thru red. It looks essentially like any Series-shaped five-string elsewhere in these pages, just with a LOT fewer knobs. It's 34 scale, so it's a long reach to first position even for a 44Long like me. And like all of these, it's a tad head heavy, but you learn how to hold it. It has the 'classic taper' neck, whereby it can use the 4-string pickups: For the 'comfort' (wider flare) taper, you'd use the 5/6 string shells.
I always think it must have been on its way to being a Series but got changed, except it's all solid, without the large routs/chambers a Series would have.
Of course, that look is totally Alembic (except it's red . . . . ). The terrific thing about that shape is that it REALLY allows you to play up the neck with nothing in the way, almost Steinberger-esque in the way the upper neck is just right there in front of you.
