I guess the record may be incorrect, because I reported exactly what it said.
We're all used to wood like Red Oak that always seems to look the same, but most other woods are not like this. I suppose it's possible that the top of your bass is Birch, but from a photo, it doesn't look like it. But you never know, at least until you examine a chunk of it under a microscope, and that's really not an option here.
I'm adding a note in the file that the original card might be incorrect. If we ever see this bass in person, we might be able to take an even better guess, for now, it's a little mystery.
