Interested in some history on this 1976 Series I, s/n 444.

To follow-up to the original question, do you have any information on past owners of S/N 76-444? Haven't been able to find another alembic logo inlay on the headstock like this:

That inlay was common on the early models. It looks like the inlay on my 1972, and 1973 basses. Nice!!

Here are the details from the file:

top and back: Maple (Bird's-eye top in the photo)
body core: Cherry
neck: Birch and Purpleheart
fingerboard: Ebony with abalone ovals
peghead veneers: Maple
finish: linseed oil
originally made for: custom order for an individual
birthday: July 12, 1976

The only other note is that it was supplied without a DS-5 power supply. It's likely this was not the customer's first Alembic.

About the inlay, dela217 is right, it's not uncommon on the 72 and 73 instruments. They were usually brass filings or cut from sheet sterling silver. Yours looks like abalone or mother of pearl in the photo. I have seen a few like that too, but not usually in 1976.

And for the previous owners, sorry, but those details are confidential. If I know the state or country the previous owner was in, I'll let you know that so you can tell where the bass has travelled, but there is no address on file for this bass.
