Hi John,

Here's what I found out about your bass:

SMB4 Spoiler Medium Scale 4-string Bass 85S3530

top: Bocate
body: Mahogany
neck: 3-piece Maple
fingerboard: Ebony with pearloid oval inlays
birthday: March 21, 1985

There was a crack repaired on the face of this bass on the electronics side, but the date wasn't recorded.

That's all there is.

Thank you Mica, I was happy to get some info my bass. Never noticed he crack until you mentioned it. I am talking to bumhucker about purchasing his short scale excel. It looks great and has that distinctive Alembic sound. I am assuming that the pickups are similar to my Spoiler.

John; according to Christian's post, his bass has the following: Fat Boy Bridge pickup, MXY neck pickup.  While the shells are different sizes, the AXY's, as in your Spoiler, and the MXY should sound the same, as they have the same size magnet.  However the Fat Boy has a wider magnet (wider along the length of the string) and thus will sound different from an AXY.  The tone of the Fat Boy will have more growl.

Hi davehouck and thanks for the added information. I really love the sound of the Bass and it fits well doing fusion Jazz. But until I found the Spoiler after years of searching, in a music store in Pittsburgh i had only played a short scale. I would really love to find a short scale Alembic. I have posted on ther site for it as well. The short scale that I played prior to getting the Spoiler was custom made by a local Luthier for me in 1980, A very nice piece but not the quality sound of the Alembic.
Thanks again for the info.
